Type Locality and Naming

"Pha Nok Khao Platform (Khon San region; south of Loei region): The type section is in the Phu Kradung area in southern Loei Province (DMR 1992). "The Dok Du Formation (Figs 5.9, 5.11 & 5.12) was proposed by Chonglakmani & Sattayarak (1984) and Chonglakmani et al. (1985a, 1985b) for ‘Early – Middle’ Carboniferous strata … along the border between Loei and Nong Bua Lam Phu provinces." [Ueno and Charoentitirat, 2011]

Fossils

"A rich Coral fauna consisting of Syringopora, Kueichouphyllum, Arachnolasma, Solenodendron, Lithostrotion, Hexaphyllia and Heterophyllia associated with the Foraminifers Archaediscus, Endothyra, Endothyranopsis, Clima- cammina, Koskinobigenerina, Endostaffella and Eostaffella is reported from limestones exposed in the Na Wang area, which is one of the more important outcrop areas of the Dok Du Formation. Moreover, Fontaine et al. (2005a) mentioned thick carbonates with Devonian tabulata, rugosa and stromatoporoids from the area where the Dok Du Formation is mapped." [Ueno and Charoentitirat, 2011]

?Middle Devonian – Mississippian. "The Dok Du Formation is probably a lateral equivalent of the Ban Sa Ngao Fm plus the underlying Middle – Late Devonian Ban Khok Phai Fm limestone in the Pak Chom area, with a possible sedimentary break of latest Devonian – earliest Carboniferous age.}
